My Time in Conveyancing
Posted by: vstanistreet Feb 28
I have now come to the end of my first training contract seat where I have spent 6 months in our conveyancing department.
During this 6 months, I assisted our consultant solicitor Nicholas Kingsford in the vast majority of his residential files and I also had the opportunity to support Nick in other areas of conveyancing such as commercial, transfer of equity and general land disputes. The work that I experienced in this department was definitely varied and provided me with knowledge that will help me in my future career.
Over the 6 months, I was able to see matters through from the beginning to the end and witnessed a variety of residential matters from simple sale and purchase transactions, leasehold transactions and transactions involving the help to buy ISA scheme. I also experienced conveyancing over the Christmas period where there is definitely a buzz as clients are eager to complete prior to the Christmas break.
My responsibilities grew over the course of my seat and I became responsible for dealing with post completion matters such as submitting SDLT returns and registering properties at the land registry. Also, as I became more familiar with conveyancing documents, I was given responsibility to read through these documents and draft reports to clients.
Although I am now sad that my time in conveyancing has come to an end, I am excited for what the next 6 months will hold as I now move over into our family department.
